A number of notable individuals assisted Walt Disney, who was Pageantry Director, during the Eighth Winter Olympic Games at Squaw Valley, California, in 1960. A young Disneyland Operations Officer named Bill Sullivan and Ron Miller (who was an Associate Producer on the Disney Sunday evening TV series) assisted.
Bob Allen (assistant to Dick Nunis) worked on the Winter Olympics.
Bob Penfield was involved with the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Organizing Committee and memorably recalled Walt Disney's opening of the Squaw Valley Olympics.
As a result, the flag poles ended up in various locations around the United States. There was one located at Ford Aeronautics (in Newport Beach), located on the Irvine Company land until Ford Aeronautics was dismantled in the 1990s). Other pole locations included the temporary appearance of one at the Fausel House Gallery (at 722 Pacific Street in Placerville), one at El Dorado High School in Placerville, Walt Disney Elementary School (in Marceline, Missouri), one pole at a Fire Station in Auburn, near Sacramento, one in Santa Cruz (in Harvey West Park), one in Downtown Graeagle, one in front of the Tournament of Rose Headquarters on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, and one in front of the Walt Disney Studio Commissary in Burbank. Some of the flag poles from the Disney-designed Olympic Court of Flags, can still be seen today.

“At the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, Walt Disney heard Fred singing in the bar (another place he entertained for ski tickets!). The Matterhorn at Disneyland was just opening and Walt Disney personally asked Fred to entertain there. That led to 17 years of summer work/fun for Fred as the Disneyland Yodeler.”
